Just got 3 quick questions.

1. How do you tell if you have a male and female(juve size)? I am going to try to buy a pair for my 125 this weekend.

2. Is a 125 big enough for them to breed?

3. I know they get very mean when larger. Will i be able to put anything with them when they are still small?

Thanks a ton in advance.

125 will be fine for just them two. make sure you have a divider ready or some pvc piping so the female can hide or other structures you can make for her to hide. males usually start getting the freckles above the lateral dark line. when adults the males should have 14 rows of these freckles or spots. females tend to be more yellowish or greenish thean the males. if you buy from a importer or breeder they can usually send you a male and female. take a look at this site, do a search. plenty of pics posted of male and female.

Looking at this site is the reason I want some..

But I don't see many of the very small ones. Most of the pictures here are of the big and beautiful ones.

Can they go with other fish when they are still small?

Yeah they can. Dovii's really dont start getting extremely agressive till about 7in or so. Females are just as nasty maybe even more than the males towards other fish. Right now I have a 3.5in female dovii with my Grammodes. They are about the same size but she tries to run the show. I also have fry and they show aggression at that size also. Trial and error my friend when keeping dovii. You can see mine in the photo and video lounge. Just look for my name there and you can see him plus my other fish.

Thanks very much. I guess I got to go into this expecting to lose a couple fish.

I will be checking out your videos.

Thanks Much

As long as you can keep them with fish that can hold their own like Red Devils, Midas or Festae's you will be alright. But dovii's have the tools to dismember any fish when they want to. They are built for speed and have alot of power. Plus having alot of big and visible teeth won't hurt either. Well can hurt the other fish. lol They have alot of personality.

125 will work for a year or so. After that a 180-210 at minimum.

I had a pair that bred in a 30 gal tank. Had a bunch of fry. Nice too. I kept several. Because I had them in such a small tank, male eventually killed the female. Trial and error
