If you could only pick one to keep for life as a pet maybe as a pair late reply on which would it be and why. I have one of each in the same tank now butti is 4 inch

All male. They get along fine now but obviously won't work long term. I miss going to keep one but for the life of me can't decide which!! Thanks!
 
Providing the tank is big enough I would go with a pair of butti, and yes I know I am going for the African fish on the ca/sa section, just I have seen very few adult (+5 year) fish about.
 
Agree with MP_cichlid, need to know tank size before giving an informed answer.
 
In that case jag.Dovii and butties get to big in my opinion.
A jag will fill a 180.
 
+1 for jag as well. I'd be tempted to keep a pair of convicts in there as well - so long as there was adequate cover/protection. Even then it's entirely possible the parents could end up being lunch, but if it worked the cons would provide a constant supply of "feeders" for the jag.
