hey,

well as some of you may have heard by now, im going to do a breeding pair of dovii now.

i have a few Q's about breeding them mainly on aggression issues.

-i was wondering how much aggression there is between a pair of dovii?
(i have bred P. Managuense and IME the male managuense would bully the female vigorously into breeding, this would involve biting, highspeed ramming, chacing, lip locking and litterally beating her to deaths door to get her to lay).

- will i need to have a divider in my tank with a slit in it in which the female can get through but the male cant for a time out??

personally in the pics i have seen of dovii pairs guarding eggs, the females and males are both in mint condition and dont have cuts scrapes and missing scales from fighting before laying. now i know there may be some liplocking between the pair because they want to test each other but is there any extreme abuse which goes on between pairs normally???

thanks in advance

Howard

past exp. with breeding dovii's i had a pair and 3 other females in the tank with them. they paired up by themselves and when they did breed there was little abuse to the female going on. maybe its because i had other females in the tank with them and the male was being too busy chasing them off and protecting his female.

ok thanks for the reply.

any1 else bred dovii or do i just see things?

whats the point?? i dont want a bunch of cons in my tank..

The point is something else for the Male to bother with. Takes the focus away from bugging the female all of the time, to keeping the other fish at bay. Tankmates help a lot when it comes to keeping pairs together. Sometimes when separated without any other fish in the tank, a male will turn on a female and kill it. This usually doesn't happen when there are other fish present in the vicinity. If you don't want cons as dithers, go with something else. Either that, or you can just chance keeping the pair alone.
