I found this pair just a mile or so from where I live, and I am so glad I did! They are beautiful, relaxed towards one another, interactive with myself and the outside world in general.
In my opinion, more intelligent than either of my Motas.
Still, I have a divider on hand and a growing knowledge of the unpredictable nature of this species. Any suggestions or advice, personal experiences, etc would be awesome.

Looks great, just make sure the female has somewhere to retreat if need be.

I can tell you once my two paired up out of a group of 6 they stayed together with no problems.

In many cases a truly bonded pair of cichlids, (not just a male and female tossed together), but a pair that was allowed to choose its own mate out of many options, will be comfortable and remain so for years.
I've had haitiensus and managuense pairs that lived and spawned many times over a period of years, with few problems, when allowed to choose.
I don't think it has so much to do with species, but the how the bonding occurred that makes a difference.
Then again just as human bonding can crumble, well.......why would we expect more from fish. And I know "way" too anthropomorphic.

Congrats man! always wanted to own a nice pair of dovii
