For how long could i have 3x 4" Dovii' in a 40g L 100cm W30 cm H 47cm.?
What about one?
Could i have a 5" T. Buttikoferi with a same sized Dovii?
Any other tankmates ideas for a 100g.

are you going to keep the dovii in a 100g for life? if so that wont work, i'd say a 180g minimum, larger prefered, for a male dovii for life, and almost nothing will work for tankmates, but sometimes people get lucky, although extremely rare. your best bet would to try and get a mated pair going.

I would also agree with the above. However I would say a minimum of a 180 for a male and a 240 min for a pair. If you wanted tank mates I would push the tank 300 and above, again luck will have a huge part of it.

I have a 5" male with a red devil, blackbelt and Jag and he is already ripping scales from the jag. The jag is twice his size. I'm sure this will not work for very much longer.

not for lifetime, do you think im crazy!:nilly::screwy:
Just answer my questions:D
You think they would pair up or kill each other.:irked:

How big do they have to be to spawn?

My dovii spawned when my male was 5 inches and the female was 4...They work great together too but in some cases the male will become to forward with the female and kill her...it's all in the personality of the fish

At 4" they might start the killing in a 40L as soon as you add them to the tank. Lots, and I mean a LOT, of cover might help. But you'll end up with a pair forming, if you have a mix of sexes, in a very short amount of time. That's probably your best case as it will slow down the pair's growth as soon as they start spawning. Worst case is you have all males, then the carnage will be quick.

Tankmates for a rapidly growing dovii male in a 100g? You're talking about something that may work for a short period of time. A male dovii will start adding on size very quickly. Since you'd be looking at a matter of 3-4 months, it's not really worth even thinking about. If you want more fish, buy another tank.

there is a posibility of a pair from 1 male and 2 females. although id keep them seperate (the pair until they have some size on them, breeding slows down growth as stated before but females grow super slow anyway.

I should have read your question a little closer the first time.
I think they are already to big for that many to be in a 40L, they would most likely kill each other. As far as spawning I have read that some fish will spawn when 4 or 5" long but I think they should be at least 7 or 8" long just for the fact that they will have a little size to them.

Hope that helps a little better.

They're already too big for the 40g L.

One would be ok for maybe six months, tops.

You could have the butti with the dovii, if you want it to die. If you were to mix all the dovii and the butti, (depending on the sex of the dovii) the dovii, if all male especially, would kill the butti first and then the dominant one would kill the other two.

You could do a tank mate in a 100g, perhaps a Caqueta Umbriferous, for a very short period of time. IMHO it wouldn't be worth the hassle that you would have to undertake in moving them in a short period of time anyway.

Of course, you can always keep fish in a less than adequate size aquarium if you keep the temp low and feed them about once a month. That would decrease metabolism and slow growth rate to a point.

Now that I've answered your questions, let me give you my opinion. If you plan on keeping all the dovii, get a 300+g aquarium, set it up right, and leave them in there for life. Do things right the first time. Take your time or waste it twice, I always say.
