wussup people. i'm a newbie from cali and i'm addicted to this website! anyway.. i bought this 10" male dovii a month ago. when i first seen him.. i put my finger to the tank he would ram the tank so hard he would shake the whole tank. when i put him in my 125 gallon with a female dovii (5 inch), male texas (5 inch), butterkoferi.... he just became very shy. when i would put my finger to the tank he would swim away as if was scared. would anyone have any insight on why he turned from a beast to very timid n shy?

no idea but every dovii I've ever had except one big 18" one was always scared and shy, that's why I quit keeping them.

Probably new surroundings.. Give him time and he will claim the tank.

What size tank did you have that a 10" Dovii shook the whole tank?

Dovii are nice fish but they have been notorious killers aswell. They will soon outgrow even the 125gal believe it or not. I don't mean to be the bringer of negative news but they need a much larger tank to be housed with tankmates. I don't reccomend trying to breed dovii they take alot of experience as they are extremely agressive. I know you probley paid quite a bit of money for the 10" dovii, and sounds like you like aggressive fish and want a glass banger. Id keep just the male dovii and sell the rest unless you have other tanks. I would but the fish in a local newspaper for a small price, or talk to your LFS and see if they would give you instore credit in exchange for your fish. That dovii is gonna need some krill :) Anyways welcome to the site and stick with the hobby its great once you have a basic feel for it! :)

the only fish he fought with was a 10" male jag. i bought him a week after i got the male dovii. i quickly found out that was a bad mistake. dovii tore him up and i ended up giving him away to my cousin. other than that he gets along fine with the other fish. he follows the female dovii like he in love....lol

Probably timid because of the new surroundings. Give him some time and it should become more at ease. There will likely be trouble with many if not all the other fish soon.
This is a good site. Probably the best on the internet for fishkeeping. If you need to get rid of any fish in the future let me know. I am in Concord.

thatone-i have a 10'' male jag. kinda beat up by my dovii but still a nice fish. holla at me if you wanna take a look at him...
