So I got my female dovii about two weeks ago. I instantly fell in love with her. Well i was at the lfs the other day and noticed a nice looking male. So long story short I ended up getting him. Hes about 10" and shes around 4". I currently have them in a 75g, I have an empty 150g and will be getting a 180+ soon. I have the tank divided but she can go over to his side, which is fine with me as long as she can get away from him when or if she needs to. So my questions are; how long should I leave the divider in there, a week? a month? They get along great right now, she is on his side a lot and they just kinda sit there together. No chasing or nipping whatsoever. My next question is, he just sits in the corner of the tank when im around (theres spots where he digs so maybe he swims when im not around.) Is he still settling in? My female was fairly skiddish when i first got her but now she will come to the front of the tank when im around. I've been feeding cichlid staple, cichlid gold, frozen krill, floating carnisticks and massivore. Is this an ok diet for them? Sorry for all the questions, still new to dovii. Thanks ahead of time, here are some pics! Sorry they're a little cloudy, I was doing a WC.2015-10-02 20.45.33.jpg 2015-10-02 20.46.05.jpg 2015-10-02 20.46.43.jpg 2015-10-02 20.48.41.png

just an FYI, going to need a 250g for dovii pair IMHO. all else sounds good.

We will be in our apartment for about another year until we start looking for a house. If they do indeed start breeding hopefully they will be ok for about a year in a 150. Do you think pulling the divider next week would be ok? the tank is in the living room and i dont like the big divider sitting in there. Kind of an eye sore lol.

that depends on the male. I have to keep my jags separated 3 weeks out of a month. one week to spawn, If the male wants to spawn and female does not or is not ready can get very nasty. a 10" male have no problems taking out a 4" female in a heart beat.

this is in a 145g for my jags.

Thats what I was thinking. She is literally always on his side when i come to the living room though. But things could always change very quick and it wouldnt take him long to tear her to shreds. Hes still very skiddish. I am moving them into our spare bedroom with all of my other tanks tonight so there will be less traffic around them. hopefully this will help him settle.
