My 17" male Dovii Zeus and my 8" female red devil seem to be doing the mating ritual in my 300 gallon. Zeus has killed every other tank mate except this particular red devil and his buddy a 15" common pleco. If the dovii and red devil decide to breed will the pleco eat the eggs or fry?

I would someone else's opinion because I've never bread those two but cichlids take great care of there young (until they get a bit bigger and the parents eat them). You might see some aggression but I think the pleco will learn not to go near the nest.

The problem is the middle of the night. Parents have to sleep sometime. That's when egg/fry get eaten.

Most likely possibilities are the pleco will eat the eggs, or the parents will kill the pleco to protect the eggs.

Might be enough room for them to keep the pleco away without hurting it long enough for them to hatch.

Then they might kill the pleco to protect the fry.
