Approx how long could a baby dovii live in a 55g until I would have to upgrade? My LFS just some Dovii and they are selling for less than $15.00

until hit hit's 8" so- i'd figure the absoulte max would be 6-7months if 1" or 4-5 if 2-3". i'd personally skip the 55 and just go straight for your 8'x2' or at least 240 gallon tank....

Depends if it's male or female as well. I've had mine for about 6 months in my 55, it's a female though and only 6". I'm not planning on moving her till she hits between 7-8".

:iagree:

I think it also depends on how fast they grow. I have a pair in my 55 that are both 3 to 4 inches and doing fine. I have had the smaller one about 6 months and he has only grown about 2-3 inches.

This is going to sound f'd up, but I am just curious. I have seen a 7-8" dovii at my LFS for the past year and he hasn't been sold because they are asking for way too much. He is still alive and active everytime I go there.

I know it isn't morally correct, but if a large fish like a Dovii is kept in a small tank like a 55g, beyond being morally right...would the fish die due to being in a small tank? Like I said...this 8" Dovii at the LFS has been there forever.

Is stunted growth such a bad thing?

don't buy fish you don't have room for...
dovii are HUGE fish that are ultra aggressive, and if you don't have a 6 foot tank for it then you have no business getting one in my opinion.
this is a moral, responsibility issue.
do the right thing and leave the dovii until you can get a large tank

Agreed.

dovii are quite a handful..but a brilliant fish..it would be ideal to buy a larger tank b4 getn 1, if u dun have room for a 240 a 180 gallon would house it for a few years...
