I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what I could put in with my dovii. I looked at Umbees ,Trimacs, an even a black nasty even though they are hard to get. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Most likely nothing

Anything big enough to eat the dovii

If it is a male rightfully aquarium should be upgraded to 500 + this is a open water lake species that has territory that is larger than the average home aquarium.
Haha that should read “larger than the average ‘public’ aquarium” I completely fail to see why everyone and their brother needs to keep Dovii when maybe 5% of fish keepers have tanks big enough.

To the OP, nothing after the fish gets 8”~. If you have to keep him I recommend a cheap above ground Intex pool with a few DIY 5g bucket drip filters.

You shouldn't of picked a dovii if you want tank mate's should've gone friedrichsthalli or motaguense cichlids

I dont think tank mates are a good idea for fish like dovii or umbee even in large aquariums. While some specimens may tolerate other fish for a period of time, in a 4' tank sooner than later the dovii will require all the space and more for itself. I would be looking for a larger grow out for the dovii and then looking for other cool fishes for the 55.
