So I'm going to be aquiring a Male Specimen, at about 7 inches. Wondering if Jaguars are compatible with them? Also as for bottomfeeders RTCXTSM Hybrid? Just wondering on which tankmates will go with the big boy.

In a 240g, the jag and most any other large cichlid kept in the tank will eventually become murder victims. The dovii will tolerate only himself as the Big Fish in the tank.

I'd try a number of potentially-disposeable tankmates; 5-10 Lake Malawi cichlids, a couple convicts/jewels. I'd also try a couple small sunfish, if you can get ahold of them. The dovii may or may not decide to eat them as he matures, and considering all of said fish are pretty cheap, it's definitely something I'd do.

RTC/TSN/hybrid grows way too big for a 240g, and also a helpless victim of dovii aggression, should the dovii decide one day that it doesn't approve of a catfish's presence. I'd look into one Synodontis catfish specie, or Pictus.

It will be hard to get anything to live with a Dovii permanently. Usually once Dovii reaches 15" or so it will murder any other tank mates. My freind use to mix Asian RTC with his Dovii but they would be at it constantly.

that is some of the same info i have been hearing, it seems as though a lot of these very agg. cichlids although they may be fine in a tank with others for a period of time, eventually when they mature it will be time for them to take out anyone they dont want in the tank.

Just get him a female if you wanna see some serious aggression. I was actually able to keep a 7-8" Pictus cat with a dovii from 3"-14" but the poor Pictus never came out of his home.

I have a breeding pair in my 'community' tank. Male is 8", female is 7". They hold their own fine, and I don't find them very aggressive at all, SO FAR!

When they breed, the female is actually the more aggressive one, and seems to enjoy taking down my Festaes. They have yet to cause one split fin on any fish, quite honestly.

I do keep hearing that once they get bigger (like double) they become quite aggressive though, so I will find out first hand. I used to have an 11" dovii, and he was quite mild mannered in my tank.

Jags I find good fish to mix with other large cichlids, as I have never had one kill another fish. I used to have a HUGE pair - male must have been a good 16". 'Pushed' rather than bite with his mouth.

Mixing Jags with Dovii I would guess would be a mistake, as due to their similarities, I am sure the dovii would zero-in on the jag non-stop. Just a guess though.

Good luck! I hope I get some luck too and keep my Doviis from killing everything else.

Dovii are your possible tankmates and they will probably get killed too.
