Ok I currently have the two groups of 3 dovii and 3 umbee in seperate 55g's now still waiting hoping to get a male. I have the 180 set-up currently with 5 5" Tinfoil Barbs and plan to add either the male wolf or male umbee with the Tinfoils once I can determine sex on either(wolf/umbee)...Now when this happens the cichlid i choose will be probably close to 5". How long will the Tinfoils survive and could i add a 6" youngster RTC....Also how long would this work before the Male Umbee or Wolf would have to go solo.........

I have seen RTC's mixed in with male Dovii on a few occasions. RTC have an incredible growth rate and should be fed only every few days to restrict growth when mixed with Cichlids. My freind Greg actually had a RTC that was 4" mixed in with Red Devils that at the time were 6-7" but it only took the RTC a few months to outgrow them and for the Red Devils to be in serious risk of being devoured by the RTC. I would try it but keep a watchful eye on both to make sure no aggression or hungary eyes are being shown. Channel cats I have found out can work quite well with Cichlids but they also get quite large.

I had a similar tank of dovii, managuensis, motaguense, texas cichlids and a red devil, all between 4-5 inchers. I added a baby Red tail cat around 3 inches. The red tail cat quickly grew and hit ten inches within months and ate the motagunse a texas cichlid a huge bala shark. This was all before I discovered MFK. Unless you have a tank/pond that is huge you shouldn't even think about getting one. I don't even know what can house them properly but a tank even as huge as 500-600 gallons definately will not. If you google them and see an adult one you will see the monstrosity.

Both umbee’s and Dovii’s seem to be "total" solitary when they reach 12 inches. Good luck trying to have a happy family when they reach 12. But even at 6 inches they will pick and beat up other tank members. Get your camera really because you will see some good fights. Good luck I hope you get a BOY.
