Anyone ever tried this? In my experience plecos are largely ignored however upon reaching the 8 inch mark my solo male dovii has become a real psycho charging the glass at anyone who dares pass his tank. His recent personality changes have me thinking twice about adding a pleco. Above all I dont want my dovii hurt he is in great shape with amazing color and the longest trailers ive seen on a dovii. Im fine keeping him solo if theres any chance of injury. Just wanted some opinions. Thx

My 6 inch Dovii never grew up with a pleco, he was in a 135 g with a bunch of other CA SA cichlids that I eventually removed. So I decided to add Two plecos in HIS tank because of the Algae growth.... Only to find the next day just the heads of those poor Plecos... :)

Bad idea bro! Since he's already alone then keep him like that unless you have a female. He will destroy that pleco if you add him. It might have worked out if you already had a large pleco and grew the dovii out from small together. But now its too late, plus with a pleco in the tank you'll have plenty of poop stringers to clean up lol

Ciocca, if you have an algea prob, then try using different lighting or just have to scrub it off the glass like I have to;)

Plecos are a bit armoured, and have some spiny fins. I've heard of agro cichlids biting plecos and getting injured.

I say don't risk it.

Won't work bro.

Dovii's at that size usually don't like any tankmates(Unless kept in a 240+up).
I had a 5 inch dovii that attacked a pleco and he killed the pleco. The dovii's lip was slit open because of the spines of the pleco.

I don't keep catfishes anymore because of this issue. Their spines are deadly.

Ya not worth it then
