Looking to the experts here about my 3 inch juvenile dovii yawning very often. It yawns every few minutes or so.
Is this normal or is something wrong.

55 gal tank with aqua clear 70 filter along with an airation air stone. Temp is 82 and 25 %water changes 1 time a week. Its very active and eats like a pig. I do have tin foil barbs and a geophagus with it. None of them yawn. None of the fish stay near the surface either.
maybe he's just tired. is he getting time to sleep. keep lights on for 6 - hours only.
used to have mines on for 12 hours a day. and my cichlids keeps yawning. cut it down. and they dont do it often now

Interesting topic I have never gave much thought to why fish yawn. CHC, is nitrates really the culprit or was that a guess? Also, how can nitrates be 0 with only 25% wc once a week? Im assuming those tin foils eat a ton as well?

You might want to try another test kit. I'm not saying that your water is bad but I can't remember one of my tanks ever having 0.0 nitrates, ammonia, and nitrites.
