woohoo my dovii with their eggs ....sweet hope i get a few babies out of it sry for the pix there is a ****load of eggs thats just all i can get a pix of

DSCN0397.JPG

ok im like 3 sas into this eggs and i noticed some of the eggs are black , does thing mean they are fertlized eggs or dead eggs looks like about 2-250 eggs with about a 100 of them black ...how long till they hatch and do u think the parents will eat them ....all

the black you see is the live baby.......white eggs are not fertilized......try not to disturb the parents, stay away from the tank as much as you can for the next 48 hours so the parents don't feel threatened cause this can make them eat their young....if this is the parents first breed together they might eat them....this will sometimes happen....the parents, mainly the female, will look like she is eating the eggs but in reality she is just moving them to places that she thinks are safe.....two days after they hatch you should start feeding them baby brine shrimp......

crazy cichlids thanks for the info , the female ismoven the eggs around like u said, the tank i in my kitchen so it get lil less traffic then other rooms we been stayen away from it much as possible , i look in time to time just to see what is goin on, this is their first spawn so im keeping fingers crossed to keep a few anyways ...now since the spawned how often will they spawn from now one ...i heard once a month...need alil info just i guess wondering .....most ppl tellme just to let nature happen

yeah just let "nature happen"...it is so cool to watch them parent their young especially in like 2 or 3 days when they are all able to swim on their own....get the frozen baby brine shrimp ready, I always use a turkey baster so i could shoot the food directly into the area the babies were....I never liked taking babies from parents even though many will say its fine.....they can spawn as often as every three weeks.....but if that starts happening you are gonna need grow out tanks or a LFS that is ready to buy or trade a bunch of them from you. Other wise it starts to become a burden rather then pleasure trying to care for hundreds of the little guys.....ohhh also make sure in the next 24-48 hours you cover filter intakes with filter pads so the little ones dont get sucked up.....good luck and enjoy

sweet yeah i got the sponge on already figured i better get in there before he gets to "crazy"...the local fish store i think will take some but at this point i just wanna see a few swimming around in the tank with the parents....then worry about where to go with em ...worst case is i feed em to my pbass...only if they r have to many spawns....i dont want to get into shippen these guys at all so it is what it is a this point ......thanks for the help everyone / crazy cichlids much appericated
