Ordered 6 F1 Dovii at 1-2"

Cleared out a 55g and it is ready to receive them, or so i think atleast.

I have never kept Dovii, but have kept other Parachromis, so i'm really just looking for a few words of advice and warning with a group of 6 like this, and possibly a few hints and tips too.

Will be growing out to get either the nicest single wet pet eventually, or possibly a pair. Depends how things turn out.

Approx. arrival date is tuesday, but it could get delayed, even though i don't think so.

Right now, the tank is half bare bottom half sand, with a huge pot and a few rocks i set up as a breeding site/terretorial claim.

Thanks, Tom

Breeding dovis in a 55 gallon?

They will outgrow that in about 8 months.

No..

I'm growing them out to get the nicest single specimen or possibly pair, and then obviously it/they will be going into a bigger setup.

Edit: But thanks for the 8 month estimate. Was counting on 4 max

People cant wait to chime in and tell you you are doing something wrong.....tank to small! they will kill each other, filter is too small, pot too big, pot too small, take the pot out. I have had my 5 for about 4 Months in a 100 gallon and they are doing great.

And I have 2 in a 250 gallon tank. How is that relevant to his putting dovis in a 55 gallon tank?

I doubt they will kill each other, i may never have kept dovii's and i realise how vicious they are. But i doubt that until 4-5" not much will happen. If they will kill each other, most likely the largest/alpha male of the group would survive, and would probably be the most aggressive and possibly the nicest. Or they will pair of at 4-5" and the pair will kill the rest.

5 JUVINILES! Not the same as adults, you know that but im highliting my point.. 5x 1-2" Dovii's will be ok in a 55 for a few months, im not to say how many but atleast 2-4 months.

I like your plan Hagel, just looking forward too pics now. Good luck with them and be sure to update often.:naughty:

Cannot beat advice from people who have never owned the fish in question.

He said he was setting up a 55 gallon tank with breeding areas, my statement was that BREEDing dovis in a 55 gallon seems implausible.

Reading comprehension is very important.

But thanks Jakob for your interpretation.

are they the blue nic or the yellow, i got 6 blue nics from rapps about 3 weeks ago. just starting to get blue fins they are about 2.5 inches.

The rocks are set up as a breeding site (the 55g is what i used to breed my Mayans, hence the breeding site) But the plan wasn't to USE it as a breeding site, but merely to explain that i have a few rocks piled up in a corner of the tank.

They are unspecified in terms of collection location on the list i ordered from, and in all honesty i will be just as excited to see either variant in the bags :) As long as they are Dovii!

Nice! Can i ask what kind of setup you are keeping your 6 in? since we are clearly in the same boat :)

Good luck with your dovis, they are great fish.
