cichlid city
I was just in jacks aquarium the other day and i saw these nice cichlids for 10 dollars, and it turned out they were dovvis.does anybody know the apporpiate tank size for a single adult specimen.I was thinking 75 but i dont kno.

I am not sure but I do know its not an african cichlid?? o__o

well I'm guessing the width on your 75 is 18". This by itself would make it too small for a Dovii. Dovii will easily reach 18" it might take a while but they grow very large. Also with a fish that large it would require large and frequent water changes. I personally would say at the minimum size would be a tank with a 24" width. If you get a tank that size it should have enough volume also.

for a male dovii...roughly around 100 to 120 gallons since they get so large a pair would need...a very large tank of at least 300 gallos.

Yep. Besides getting quite large, they are fast and powerful swimmers. Their large tails can really get them moving. Mine crosses my 8 foot tank in the blink of an eye.

Both are too small. It;s not the volume, it's the footprint of the tank that is key. A 100 or 120 gallon tank is only 18" wide. A 180 is 24". It's only six inches difference...but when you are talking about a male that could easily grow 19"...that extra room pays off.

Bottom line is that it would live in your tub if you wanted. It's a matter of "survive or thrive". If you want to do it righ, count on a 180 or larger. If you want to roll the dice...go smaller.
