Downgrading Smart Phone to Basic Phone

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you're right the 3g phones don't have sim cards. i have a droid

my nephew has an iphone 4s that i can use when he upgrades.

i'm looking into some kind of tablet though. that's all wifi right? the ipads are a bit steep. is there any particular one you guys recommend? it'll just be for surfing the net, movies, music and what not without having to get on the computer.

Tablets, I bought the HP Touchpad when they did their last and final fire sale at $99. It's a no-brainer price. But I don't really use it. The gf is always on it. I don't like HP's webOS interface. So limited in what you can do, feels like a god damn Apple product. I'm still a laptop guy. Only thing I like the Touchpad is for casual web browsing on the couch. I can do a lot more on my phone. Battery life on the Touchpad is great though. There's some really nice Android tablets out there. iPads aren't an option for me, you know how I am about that :)

thanks jose, i'll look into it more and decide. i'm just so used to doing the couch and toilet web browsing on my phone that i'm sure i'd love to have some kind of tablet that's light, portable and easy to use

I am doing the same, my smartphone is a ok phone trying to be a bad computer. I dont use apps I dont use the net. I just need a friggin phone hahaha, I dont need it, I dont like it, Im not keeping it,

get a cheap Verizon-run Straight Talk Phone (1000 minutes/1000 texts for $30/month)

Here's an affordable smart phone with camera. Take one of those old rotate each number phones and one of those old plastic kodak cameras, tape the camera onto the phone and you got yourself a cheap phone with a camera. ;) just kidding!

I actually work for AT&T so I can shed some light on the data thing.

By swapping the sims, you'll escape the data for a little while but we'll eventually add it for you. Every call or text sends your phones identity to us and we do audits based on that info. Where the phone came from or your contract status with us has no bearing on it, it will get added sooner or later. Once it's on it's not coming off until you bring us a non smartphone to use, put it back in the iPhone and it'll back on even faster. Sorry man, but your mom is gonna have a data plan soon.

As far as phones go, I couldn't use anything but my iPhone. Ever. Every other phone seems to have some blaring oversight or major issue that would make it unusable as far as I'm concerned. Id have to make my expense cuts elsewhere...

iPhones aren't phones, they're tiny computers w/ tiny screens that just happen to be able to make calls. Even though my StupidPhone runs on craptastic Sprint, I'm glad I only pay $45 per month for unlimited everything and I don't have a stupid contract. It was hard enough for me to get an iPod...no way could I ever get anything else made by hollier-than-thou Apple.

Why don't you tell your boys down at AT&T HQ to come down on the prices a little, man your killing us.

What phone do you have? Most Verizon phones don't use a SIM card at all, unless you have one of the newer 4G phones. As for downloading apps and stuff, sure, you just have to do it on a wifi connection. You should be able to do everything you can right now on wifi, with the exception of making phone calls and text messaging.
Actually you can do both through wifi using TextPlus. It assigns you a phone number, though; you can't use your existing number.
