They have a good reputation and I have met people who used them with no problems, especially for live rock, but they are a bit expensive for livestock.
Ghost shrimp are expensive unless you order in bulk. Shipping is free for orders over like $200 and you can get a box of 100 for $29. it gets cheaper as you get more. I don't like how they don't offer airport to airport.
The first was 4 angel fish, some ottos, and Amano shrimp. All arrived dead because of FedEx losing the box for a week!! But, Dr.'s F&S replaced them all, even paid the shipping!
The second time was 6 more angels and more ottos.
The third time was my eel, cherax, and 100 feeder shrimp. The cherax was "in berry" when she came in and the eel ate immediately. Only about 75 feeder shrimp were in the bag alive, though.
The fourth time was a salvini and 200 feeder shrimp (notice they don't offer that anymore.) The salvini only had one eye and because of that never really settled into my tank. The fish was otherwise perfect. That fish ended up going to a fish rescue guy in town and I'm told it's doing well in a planted tank with tetras.
All in all I like ordering from LiveAquaria.com. They do have high prices and there shipping price has gone up a lot, but their stuff tends to be healthy and they have excellent customer service. I won't be ordering from them anytime soon though, because of the new shipping charges. I'm saving up for a big order so I won't have to pay shipping.
I have never ordered fish from drsfostersmith, but I have ordered fish supplies from them for the last 10 years. I have had great customer service. As far as live fish go, they tend to be a little higher than many lfs, but people say their fish are very healthy. If you want to order a bunch of fish I say go for it, but if you order a few it is not worth it.
Glad to hear such good things about them. Has anyone else delt more with buying livestock than fish supplies? Livestock is what I am most curious about.
