Sooo….how many of you have done it? My sister has been bitten, lol. I actually bought my 55 from her and my BIL for $40. They bought it gently used because they were going to have bearded dragons but decided not to. Fast forward to me re-stocking my 55 recently. I took her to the LFS with me. She liked the Mollies. I told her she could have my 5 gallon and a couple of Mollies. Her husband was skeptical. We dragged him to the LFS Saturday to *cough* help us with the Angels. She then decides she likes Rainbowfish and Cherry barbs. Well, she would need a bigger tank. I worked up a cool 55 set up with dwarf rainbows, cherry barbs, khooli loaches, killifish. Her husband rolled his eyes then started to look a little interested. I told them they could find a tank for cheap on Craigslist. But where would they put it? This was last night.

This morning she calls me- her husband is trying to figure out if they can just remove their fireplace and put a fish tank in there.:ROFL:

HAHA this hobby is EVIL!!!!

I told her to send him to monsterfishkeepers.com and have him check out the DIY section. But I gave her fair warning that from reading on here it seems that when men get bitten, it’s worse than women.:naughty:

I "thought" I got my younger brother hooked when he asked if he could have one of my spare 55's...then I found out it was for his bearded dragon.

I first got into the hobby 5 years ago and purchased a 125 gallon tank and set it up as a large oddball tank. My older brother was jealous and him being my brother, was determined to one-up me.

So naturally he went out and bought a 90g wave-front and set it up as salt water with about 100 lbs of live rock, "cycled" it with several dozen damsels, then added a couple different types of grouper and a lionfish. The damsels lasted as feeders for about a month before they were all taken down. I should probably point out my brother had (and still has) no clue about fishkeeping (and I was a beginner then so wasn't much help).

He even put some type of bottom feeding shark in there, which hilariously enough, was killed by an anenome(sp?) the first night.

So anyway, to spare you guys a long story...my brother realized fish keeping involved WORK, and so, he no longer has his tank setup.

He did have it set up in his office for a few years though as a live rock/coral/ community fish setup, but even then he was too lazy to care for it. He paid someone from a LFS to come do water changes/upkeep for him.

Same thing happened to an old friend / neighbor of mine. When he saw my tank he went out and got a 75g and set it up as an african cichlid tank. It only took him a few months to get bored and start neglecting the tank. I remember going over there and his 2 canister filters were only trickling water out, when I mentioned he should probably do some maintanence on them, he really didn't seem to care. He moved a year later and broke his tank down.

Haha..my sister is a stay-at-home-mom to a 4 month old right now so I think a hobby is just the thing she's looking for :) Plus we pretty much do the same thing. We're so hateful we really don't have too many other friends, lol.

I had a 20g for the whole last year of college and my roomate really liked it. When I moved home he started up a 30g. And since then he has set up a 55g as well.

Since moving home one of my friends bought a 15g and another started up a 55g African tank! Now I'm trying to get my boss to get a tank for the office..... this might be wishful thinking

I work for the government, so there would have to be some sort of legislature passed for a tank to be set up here, I'm sure;)

my girlfriend and her kids, more so her kids though. I'm looking for a 75 gallon or larger for the kids room so that our 5 year old can get a Red Devil like she wants. We started her off with a 10 gallon and a couple goldfish and they had gotten to the point where they were too big for that tank so we upgraded her to a 29 gallon for them and now she wants a red devil like I use to have so we are looking to get atleast a 75 gallon tank for her for a red devil. My girlfriend said I'm using the kids to help me get more larger tanks. I said I would never lol

I bit my brother. He's mostly immune to most of my diseases, but liking fish has caught him :P
