has anyone kept a dragon fish before (violet goby)

i juss bought one thats like 10 inches for like 10 bucks.

i just want to know how to maintain him what his max size would be.

also, soon as i bought him. i put him in the tank with my tiger oscar and clown knife. oscar tried to eat him but gave up. here's the bad part, the clown knife bit him on the end of the tail and kinda ripped his tail. i had to hit the clown knife on the head about 5 times before he finally let go of him.

so the question is, would he be ok? (he's breathing ok and moves around a bit) and if his tail falls off, would he still live?

the rip is at about 8-9 inch. its not detatched but a good chunk was taken out. his spine is still attatched.

thanks all.

rrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slow eaters, probably wont stand a chance with your oscar and CK

Well definetly get the fish in some salted water with some melafix or some natural remedy product! Or ask your lps to help you, they usually have some tanks for sick fish!
Absolutely no way a dragon fish can be housed in your tank, your other fish will think he is a worm and always chase him, stress the poor guy and bight at his tail!
Maybe try a school of archers or something compattible! Good luck Howie

thanks all. and don't worry, he's not in that tank no more. i juss put him in there thinking he should be fine since he's long.

i have 3 10 g, 40 g, 60 g, 20 g hex, and a 180 g.

he's by himself chillin. seems to be doin good.

damn you got tht mant tanks??? thats shady...

I really like my dragon fish, they dont seem to grow very fast but they look cool!

I did a pretty extensive write-up in that thread.. Check it out :D

Sounds like your Goby might be a goner though, they have a hard time bouncing back from stress and most people find them pretty hard to keep. I would use one of those 10g tanks for medication and use some marine salt to make it lightly brackish and reduce stress.. Melafix should also help heal up the wounds..

thnx all for helping. he's dead. LOL

well, i bought a 3-4 inch atf and a 4 inch payara in the same tank as the goby, and.... boom!!! good dinner for the new fishies. =*(

atleast i knoe my atf and payara are eating good and always hungry....

R.I.P. violet goby
