I've had a dragon goby for about 2 years now and it's grown to about 9" and bigger around than a quarter. I just bought another dragon goby (6" and nearly as big around as a penny, still pretty thin) about 3 weeks ago and have kept it in quarantine since. I just tried introducing the new goby into the tank with the larger goby and the larger goby tried to bite the smaller goby. I've always been under the impression that these fish will get along with their own kind. Will these fish ever get along or will they always fight? If they will get along, how should I introduce the smaller goby to prevent the larger one from attacking?

No, mature violet gobies are very territorial. What size tank is it?
The only way to keep multiple violet gobies in the long run is in a very large tank with plenty of hiding places. If you introduce the smaller one and leave it in there now, it would probably be killed by the larger one.
If you intend to keep multiple gobies together, get a really big tank, stuff it with caves and other hiding places, and get another small violet goby (to spread out the aggression).

On a side note, 9" seems small for the fish being two years old. Granted mine is only 10" after three, but that's due to some serious health problems that resulted from me not regularly maintaining the tank. What do you feed your goby? How often do you do water changes?
