Hello lads,

Been trying to think of good ways to make caves for my sterbai colony. Got a load of plant pots and that, but looking for longer darker caves....would there be any issues using plastic drain pipe from hardware store?

Druu, thanks for the info :)

Pounder, all I can say is WOW! They look real nice, amazing colony! How big is a that tank and how many do you keep in there? What do you feed them on?

About a month ago i put in the black floating pipe i wedged it under some bog log thought it made great housing for my loaches.A few days later my aro went on a hunger strike and started gasping the aro never recovered i didnt even consider the pipe until it was to late. I am not 100% sure it was the pipe but i will never use it again just to be safe. i did put in a large amount and it was freshly cut who knows maybe it leached something in the water my aro veins in its tail turned black it sucked.

yep wight will sink some what and black allways floats i've had a black tube in my tank for about a year i've lost a few fish but all causes of death were determined except for my fire eel who turned white and died after about 2 weeks of being totally normal

i'll switch PVC any way if you don't tie it down or something you can't get black tubes to sink i put a layer of gravel on the bottom of the tube to keep it down but fish push the gravel out and it bobs to the top smaking the tank wall on the way up so JUST GET WIGHT PVC

Why not buy some of the K&A sewer pipe ornaments? I have several and the biggest one is big enough for a small cat to crawl through.

mmmmmmmmmmm I've got the pipes in my tank already, should i take them out?! I'm a bit worried after reading the above...

The black us USB pipe, and the white is PVC. The USB floats. Many people argue that USB leaches toxins. I did some research on this recently, and my conclusion (although it may be the wrong conclusion:)) is that both types of pipes are fine for the tank. I could not find any evidence from manufacturers or aquariusts that USB is bad for fish.

If you don't care about the color, go with the PVC because it will sink.
