I am plumbing my 300 gallon tank and have never had a predrilled tank. Already have the returns plumbed in, how high should my drain pipe be? Does it matter? It is a 1.5 inch pipe. Thanks in advance for the help.

The height of the drain pipe determines the height of the water in your tank. The top of the drain pipe should be about a 1/4" - 1/2" below where you want your water level to be.

So the water flows over the top though the slots, and then down a half inch or so to the top of the over flow. Does anyone use a prefilter at that point?

my tank is 26" tall,my overflow slots are 24" from the bottom, the top of my durso drain pipe is 23" from the bottom.
I have a screen over my overflow openings. I did try some poret 20 ppi foam, but it slowed the flow too much.
