OK I am no plumber so I have no idea. I live in a house which is basically on city water and city sewage. In my basement by the furnace area there is a drain on the floor. Does this drain go to the drainage pipes??? like if I were to just siphon water from my tanks and just let it spill down that drain would it go down or would it overflow eventually??? is there any issues with doing this???

I just for some reason don't think its an actuall drain like a sink. Is it??

Well is it a floor drain (like the one in your shower) or a cap/plug?

or this

if it is a drain (probably is) it is attached to the main drain (again just think of it as a shower). Now there is no problem with using one of these unless it is clogged so just dump a couple buckets of water in and if it goes through your fine.

just so you understand floor drains work like this:

hope this helps

I agree that it should be connected if it looks like anything like that. Floor drains are not always like the picture.. they can have a normal trap like a drain.

I have actually had trouble with my flood rain in my 4 year old house, but it works for the most part.

I also agree.. dump a few buckets of water in it (being careful not to get a bunch of water near the furnace.. if it works, it works.
