Getting ready to do a major overhaul on my 600+ plywood tank. I am going to put in a background, new substrate and I am going to just do a deep clean on it.

The fish are going into several other tanks until this is complete.

So my question, have you ever completely drained your plywood tank, had it completely dry and then refilled it two weeks later?

I'm not moving the tank, just working on the inside. Do you think I'll have issues? I imagine that not have the fluid load on the walls may be an issue. But wanted to get your opinion.

I've included some pictures so you can get a sense of how it was bulit.

Awesome project. I'll be following along. I imagine destressing the seams may cause some separations, maybe couldn't hurt to add a fresh coat of epoxy.

Yeah, the tank is fiberglassed, epoxyed and has a 3/4in bead of silicone in every corner (my wife says I'm nuts). To re-epoxy would be a lot of work and might actually cause problems.

What do you guys think about draining the tank slowly? Over the course of a week... 100 gallons per day.
