i have 5 med-large pieces of driftwood(mopani and malaysian) and im not sure as to where to place them within the tank... the tank is 72x18x20(112gal) should i place it all in the center of the aquarium, some on each end leaving the middle empty, or all place it all over the tank??? ive tried all but i cant decied. i wanted some opinions as i cant get one here(wife doesnt care)....the fish kept are 6 gold severums and 7 oto cats. no plants at this time but may add some as i do have them....what do you guys think???

i think the placement of your driftwood is entirely up to you. What i might think would look good, you might not think the same. Best way to get something you like is just experiment. I try this outside the tank and then move the pieces into the aquarium after i've decided on something i like. Hope this helps.

thought i had the same problem then i planned it and came up with this. Then i started thinking of putting it upright. wide end at the base tilt your head and you will get the idea, now im back at the beginning

Perhaps you can stack a few larger pieces so your fish can swim under. Put them in the tank and take a few pics.

well i dont have the tank...be here tommorow!!!! so i have been putting the deco on the tank stand to see how it looks...my problem is i cant ever seem to get it to look natural, rather more "placed" so any help will be great...i, will post the tank with water and deco of what i got so far tomorrow, hopefully i can get some advice on how to make it look more natural...by the way...rocks in a severum tank??? trying to go with the "amazon look"

You should start soaking them. I think the malaysian driftwood will sink from the start. Not sure about the mopani. You can expect them to lose a lot of tannins, making your water brown for a while. Added boiling water to my malaysian driftwood for a week and it still makes my tank brown.

the mopani is from a previous 75 gal and does not leach at all anymore...the malaysian is new but i soaked it for 5 days changing the water 3 times a day with hot water...not leaching anymore as far as i can tell..wont really know for sure untill its in the tank though. so how about rocks in a "amazon biotype" do they usually go in one??
