I think this is the right area to post this.

I need a large piece of drift wood. around 48 inches with some character preferably.

1st question: where is the best place to get drift wood at a reasonable price?

2nd question: before i put it in the tank. should i boil it? bleach mixture soak it? or what?

Manzanita has pieces that big. I'm buying a 48" center piece from them.

I think it would he pretty hard to boil something that big. Just soak it for awhile. I'm going to just throw mine in my tank to waterlog and run carbon.....

I go to a lake or river. Look for large piles of wood that gather during floods along the banks. The wood should still be hard and not soft. Take it home scrub it,boil it, then soak it.

I have some driftwood i had in a tank for years, and it hasnt been in a tank for maybe 2 years, should i still boil it? soak it? can i soak it in the tank im cycling right now?

Thanks

I would boil it again just to be safe. Yes,you can soak it in the tank you are cycling.

good info.. i think if i get a 250 gal round stock tank i could put it over my fire pit.. im sure it would take a few hours but it should boil.

ill have to go hunt for some. I live a bike ride from the Mississippi river. i cross it every day. i may as well wait for spring with all the snow we have its gona flood big time here.. maybe ill have drift wood for sale this spring!
