It is the tannins leaching out. It will go away in time. You can boil the pieces and it will help. Or you can soak in hot water.

it will go eventually. Did you soak the pieces at all first? It will have no harm to your tank- just releases tannins

Thats nature at work my friend.Depending on what's in your tank for fish, these tannins that leach out will be helpfull as it recreates the water conditions from there respective bodies of water. If you do not like the look of the tanned water, then filter heavily with activated carbon.

I had the same problem. A lot of people like the color of the water with the tanins the drift wood leaches out. I put my drift wood in a bucket and would change the water twice a day for about a week. After that I put the wood in my tank and the water looked much better. The only way to go is water changes.

water changes are cheaper and better than purigen. do them and your water will be less yellow. over time the discoloration will slow significantly.

I don't see how water changes are better. Less yellow and over time VS crystal clear in 2 days?

I understand water changes are needed and I change my water religiously but I have a lot of driftwood in my tank and I don't want to look at stained water. I soaked my driftwood, w/ daily changes, before putting it in my tank and months later my water will still stain if not the the Purigen. Also, boiling was not an option for me. Even in the 10g pot I have I could get half of one of my pieces in it.

All that driftwood will eventually drop your ph. I'm the driftwood king and it took my water down to 6.0

Depends on your hardness levels and amount of tannins leached by the driftwoods.
