how do i safely sanitize it? will boiling it stink up my house? and how do i know if its the right wood for my tank?

does anyone know how to get it to sink faster?

i typically soak mine for a month or so before I place them in my displays. Most of my pieces are 3-4 feet long so boiling is out of the question, but for smaller pieces it will definitely help remove some tannins and help it sink.

yeah i wanted to add driftwood but i dont have anywhere i can submerge the driftwood and im worried about tannins, i think a nearby lfs sells some pre-submerged malaysian wood. im going to go check it out

If you have a extra propane stove in the garage you could use that, We have a giant pot & I usually fill it with water & boil the water at the highest setting, When the water turns brown I repeat the process. Biggest piece I've done is about 2 1/2 feet long & 3 inches in width. Over about a months time so tannins did leak out, but it was barely noticable. Then about 3 months down the road w/c every other week water was crystal clear

does it smell bad when u boil it??

I never smelled anything bad during boiling it

im boiling it now.. but for how long? i can get a rock to hold it down but when is it "safe" for my tank? thanx in advance :)

I usually buy the 4-5 foot totes from home depot, and soak the wood in that for 3-4 weeks. I usually change the water out once a week.

I usually boil it till the water turns brown, then I repeat the process a second time. It takes me about 30 minutes of boiling before I put it in a tank
