Drift Wood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I get my wood from the beach for free. Rivers, lakes, creeks, or ocean beaches are great places to find driftwood. Get yourself a saw and get hiking!

My suggestion is to try a LFS. Driftwood is one of those items that i have to purchase at a store, because i can't figure out the size by just looking at a pic, even though they often do list sizes of wood on online ads.

there is manzaman, he has some nice big affordable pieces. If you want the real gnarly looking stuff check out :

#55, 60, 61, 62, 64 look pretty wicked

I get my wood from tom barr but its pricier but unique stuff, plus he is a good guy, he ships before you pay so there is a lot of trust

For me it was paid but no wood...eventually he stopped returning PMs...$90 lost but learned a lesson for doing business on MfK.

That is surprising because now (and for the past year I've been dealing him) you don't pay until you get the piece of wood. I have bought from Tom 4 times in the past year and each time was the same. I tell him what piece I want, he sends it to me. If I like what I get I pay for it.

I paid via paypal the same day it was confirmed the wood pieces was available...then waited for a few weeks; I wrote him and he said I should have gotten it...He offered a replacement and I picked the pieces then i said that I would pay extra for shipping but I want a shipping confirmation and he stopped answering the PMs. By that time the paypal period for charge back has ran out.

Oh well...lesson learned about waiting for too long for corrective action.

I bought the $75 dollar package from manzanita.com and couldn't be happier...they are the wood you see in my 300. (op: whoever you buy from, if you can spare the time and a large garbage can, soak the wood for a few weeks first or put up with the tank looking like a giant tea pot for a bit)

very strange, I know he had some bad experiences and that is why he now requires you to wait until you get the piece before you pay. Even if I offer to pay in advance he says no won't give his paypal ID until you confirm you get the piece and it meets your expectation. I don't there are many others offering the same quality of the gnarled manzanita that he gets. I don't like the look of the regular manzanita as much that is why I pay extra for barrs stuff

reading the PMs...the reason I waited before really asking where the woods are is because I think he said his sister passed...but oh well...

One more OP...if your 125 is plexi. make sure the wood you chose can actually fit.
