Hair algae? No pleco would ever eat hair algae. Do you have pics of the algae?

I had the same problem with algae in my 150 gal and all I did was buy a couple of 2.5 inch bushy-nose plecos and 1 week later they already cleaned out 95 percent of the algae. IMO get a few smaller plecos than a single large pleco. That worked for me.

Hairy algae is tough. BN's might be your best bet.

Bristlenose or bushynose pleco for short. They're also called Ancistrus sp.
