i bought a few pieces a driftwood from Petsmart the other week. i have had them soaking for a while changing the water every 3 days. on one of the pieces it seems to have a slim film covering it. any ides what this is and how i can stop it
fungus or a type of algae. Can you boil the pieces? If so that will help leach out the tannins and also kill any unwanted hitchhikers.
Also even after boiling you will still leach some color into the tank for quite some time but the color is harmless to the fish.
I just had to throw away two pieces of DW that came from there for the same thing. Had them in my tank for 6 months. They would always get this white slime coat and I would take them out and wash them off and it would still come back. I preboiled them and soaked them and everything.
