i want to get that brown color in the water, but is there another way of doing that with out using driftwood? I can i use peat moss like from home deopt.

Theres a lot of different kinds of moss. I see them at petco and homedepot. Which one to use and not to use? thanks.

Be careful with peat bought from home depot etc, some of that contains fertilizer or other contaminants, although some stores such as lowes sell peat pellets (used to start plants from seed. READ THE LABEL. Another possibility, although more expensive is, Fluval, the canister filter maker, used to make peat sold in a little box as a canister additive which would be good, Also tetra, makes a product called instant amazon, or blackwater extract, that would be good and safe, and is really concentrated

but would that blackwater stuff keep my water yellow? some articles say that it wouldnt? But if did then its a +!!

Yeah, it will. The stuff that leaches out of wood, peat, leaves, etc. and darkens the water is tannic acid; blackwater extract is just tannic acid in a bottle.

i use 100% pure sphagnum peat moss bought at a garden store. You just want to make sure there are no fertilizer additives. Its SUPER cheap but messy. You need a fine mesh media bag to use it.

almond leaves (i think thats the name) can also be used. ebay has them here in the uk but im unsure where you are. depends if you like the dead leaves look, not my thing but each to their own.
