Sooo I added a large log from the bush that I dried and soaked for a few weeks but obviously not long enough as my tank is still very cloudy after a few water changes and adding carbon to the filters.. Is there anything else I can do to fix this without losing the log as I really like the look of it. Any help would be much appreciated thanks guys :)

Ok thanks will give it a few days I guess and if it doesn't clear up il start back with the big water changes again I guess... It's a 5x2x2ft and just runnin through a sump. Guys at My local said just big water changes and add carbon and hopefully will clear up

Did you actually scrub the wood? With a scrub brush? Aggressively? I use a fine steel brush on all drift wood before it goes in the tank. I got a hollow piece once that had over a pound of dirt come out/off of it while scrubbing it. A good soak in boiling water will also kill whatever needs killing, even a bleach and water treatment. JUST MAKE SURE TO THOROUGHLY RINSE THE WOOD AND SOAK IT IN WATER WITH A DECHLORINATOR ADDED.

Yeah I did scrub a few times before and in between boiling and soaking.. Its also hollow but is about 4ft long so I'm thinking I just havnt soaked for long enough and got all of the tannins out. Just need to figure out how to fix the prob now. Hopefully just big water changes will fix it :)

I took mine to the car wash and power washed it. Then i boiled the piece and after that i let it sit in a bucket of water for about 1 month. I did change the water also while in the bucket. I put into my tank just last night and water has been crystal clear..

I bought a 2 pieces of African driftwood and soaked them in bucket for 2 days. Every night and morning I would empty the buckets and refill. Put them in my tank and added a couple pouches of carbon from Fluval to my filter and within 2 days the water is crystal clear.

Thanks for the help guys.. I did boil for a couple of hrs and the soak In a big barrel changing the water every couple of days for 2 weeks but seems I should have left it longer. I have added carbon pouches to the filter and done some big water changes and it is slightly better. Still no where near how I would like it though
