Ok so my first native collecting/fishing trip of the year came up empty, but I did end up with some pretty cool pieces of driftwood. I also found a large tree length piece that I plan on going back later to cut to size to fit into my 210 when I set it up.

I have done the soaking process with driftwood multiple times in the past, but the issue with these pieces are slightly different. The pieces seemed fine until I got them home, which is when I noticed a couple of wasps coming out of two of the pieces, uh-oh. So basically how can i kill the wasps and/or wasp nest without permanently poisoning any fish tank the pieces ever end up going into?

I thought about soaking them in bleach, because with enough rinses I could make it fish safe I believe, but is there a better solution?

Thanks for any help!

boil some water and soak it with some salt i doubt they could survive that.

lol of course I didn't think of that, that would be too simple lol. Thanks, guess I overcomplicated that lol

maybe once I get them cleaned up I can post pics... won't be tonight though (work 12 hours straight tomorrow so will be calling it a night soon)

its what i do too all of my drift wood.

+1

Boiling hot water will defiantly kill the wasps.

rather shake em around and stuff first, making the bees come out, or else youll just have wood full of dead bees...

Just cross your fingers and hope there aren't too many in there... or else, it/they may just come back to sting you bad...

you can always smoke them out before the boil too. Like set the drift wood on a fireproof support, then make a smokey fire under it... as long as you don't burn the driftwood you should be able to get all the wasps to leave and then snatch up the wood before they return... I say this only because I have access to a sting prevention suit. Smoke = angry fleeing insects

Use bleach or boiling water like some of them suggusted
