So I was thinking about getting a few pieces of driftwood from my lfs its been on their tanks ... Bad idea? Or not? Any precautions I should take orrrr? Any info will be appreciated!

All you have to do is boil it if possible, if it is larger then your pot then just put it in a container and fill it with boiling water. Let it soak for 10 mins. After give it a scrub to take of any loose pieces, then another hot water bath then into the tank after it has cooled. The bleach works as others above have noted but I'd personally be nervous about using bleach on anything being put in my tank, mostly because I don't trust myself to do it right lol

After soaking the driftwood in bleach, just add some dechlorinator to neutralize the chlorine.

Trust me there is plenty of driftwood to be found. But if you see a piece at the LFS that you really like then go for it.

I've been powerwashing my large pieces then dropping them in.

I have a kids pool I could add some bleach to then dechlorinate. I'm a little iffy on the dechlor getting all the bleach out of the saturated wood though. Can anyone speak to that?

Chlorine gasses off quite quickly, after soaking, powerwashing again, you can leave it for a day or two in declorinated water, and should be good to go.

Myself, I soak in my chlorinated pool, powerwashing and add to tank, never had problems, I have big pieces wood 3' a 7' long. If possible, I like to remove my wood at least once a year and powerwash, the remove crud buildup and any rotting area.
