Cleveland, Oh.
I have a few pieces of driftwood in my 75g tank, but this one piece that i picked upped @ lfs has been in for around 4 months now. This piece of wood is always growing a white cotton film over it. I take it out and scrub it down like every 2 weeks then in a couple of days the cotton material is back. It's an eye sore to me. How can i get rid of the growth and do you think my fish are @ risk?

Shouldn't pose any danger to the fish. To get rid of it boil it submerged for a couple hours.

Bleach is a mix of Sodium Hydroxide and Sodium Hypochloride. Both will kill fish. After soaking the driftwood, soak it in plain tap water for like an hour. Then change the water and soak it in dechlorinated water. Add a double dose of dechlor. After several hours, test the water for chlorine. If there is any chlorine, add more dechlor. If the chlorine is really high, keep changing the water until there is no more chlorine showing up in the test.

After bleaching the wood, just soak it in water for 24 hours with a powerhead, and the bleach will gas off.
