Hi everyone. I've posted about this root wood before but just wanted to see if anyone could I'd what kind of tree it's from before I put it in the tank. I'm not worried about the bark but don't want it to be something like pine. A buddy found it for me along a creek that had a lot of sycamore trees. What do you think?

Personally I wouldn't add any found wood with bark.....the bark will deteriate and it can make the tank look nasty .......take the bark off
I appreciate the reply. I've powerwashed it twice and other than chipping the bark off 1cm piece at a time it's a no go. I just want to determine that it's not some sort of pine or evergreen that's going to screw my pH.

no it looks like birch to me. I'm on mobile but definitely not an evergreen

it doesn't quite look like black birch anymore but it definitely is not from an evergreen. The problem with root structures is they don't look like the bark of the tree they make up, either way it looks like its a hard wood and probably aquarium safe. Its definitely well seasoned that any sap that could be left in it looks like it is out, I would definitely use it.

If I were you I would soak it in a trash can or soke sort of stock tank and debate from there ......while it soakes you can easily take the bark off before you place this in your aquarium.....it seems like it would help u decide on the integrity of the wood
