Hoping to get some help IDing this wood. Hoping it's not pine or something toxic. Found on the beach in NJ, in the sand, very dead and dry.

Hard to tell, doent look that old, could be maple.
Once it's been in the water awhile , if it doesn't rot it should be ok

Sounds good, just was concerned a bit because there are lots of evergreens here at the beach. I think I will do my usual wood prep and then put it in a tank with some sacrificial platys, see if anything happens.
Even evergreens can be used , not all last as long tho, however this branch doesn't look much like an evergreen/pine at all
