I have a 8x4 535g tank that is bare bottom and no decorations right now. I wanted to throw in a large piece of driftwood and add floating plants to absorb excess nutrients. Does anyone have an experience with driftwood in a bare bottom acrylic tank? I am assuming it will scratch the hell out of the tank? Anyway to stop that?

I was also think of trying some of the large tree branches that universal rocks has, but they look to have a hollow back that I am not fond of.

The inhabitant of the tank is a single aimara that is about 16in for now but will get large hence the reason I am keeping is sparse. Also, I probably have about ~4,500-5,000gph running in the tank which means whatever goes in needs to be heavy enough that the current does not move it.

Forgot to ask for mrrobxc mrrobxc and JK47 JK47 feedback as I am guessing you guys might have dealt with this.

Not sure how bad the wood would scratch the bottom. I have sand so It’s a non issue for me.

I would recommend Malaysian type wood for the tank given its size and the future siZe is the Aimara. You want something heavybb

Since you painted the bottom it will help hide the scratches. Yes wood does scratch but it’s the small scratches that you see when it’s empty.
