HEY THERE FOLKS. I HEAR RUMORS THAT HAVING SOME DRIFTWOOD IN MY TANK WILL LOWER THE PH. I HAVE TAP WATER THAT COMES OUT AROUND 7.6-7.8 AND AM PLANNING TO ADD SOME PEAT TO MY CANISTER WHICH I READ IN THEIR ADS HELPS LOWER THE PH. BUT I THOUGHT THAT DRIFTWOOD WOULD JUST ROT IN THE TANK. DOES ANYONE KEEP A FLOWERHORN IN WITH DRIFTWOOD? HOWS YOUR PH? I WOULD LIKE TO GET MINE TO AROUND 7.0 WITH OUT CONSTANTLY ADDING CHEMS. ANYONE USING PEAT WITH SUCCESS? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR TIME, R

depends on the driftwood. from my experience the wood (bogwood) that lowers your ph will also put a lot of tannens in the water making it have a tan tint.

Most flowerhorns will do fine at any ph, they are hardy fish but if its fluctuating by using chemicals its going to stress the fish out. I would add the fish with tap treated with a dechlorinator and see how it goes, if they fish is stressed you can try to add some moss/driftwood to bring it down. My fh tank is around the same level and no issues.

I have driftwood in almost all of my tanks, tannins turn the water a yellow color but I dont mind. After a few months to a year depending on the wood it goes away. After water changes the water is clear and if you run carbon it clears as well. It will lower your PH but to get to 7.0 from 7.6-7.8 your going to need more than driftwood. Peat will help as well but unless your trying to keed Discus or German Blue Rams, dont worry about the Flolwerhorns, they dont really care about a 7.6-7.8 ph IMO.
