Is there any risk for parasites? I'm looking for a longer piece for my tank. That won't take up slot of swimming space.. So probably more like a branch piece. Something that I can tie some Anubias and java fern to

I'm in NNJ and get all my pieces around local lakes and rivers as well. I just soak them for about a month in primed water to get them to sink, while scrubbing them down every few days to get the slime or any fungal growth off. Most times the fungus/slime won't come back after being washed off numerous times, other branches take more scrubbing or just scrapping. I always make sure the wood is very hard while picking it out. The best places for picking are rivers that are low, especially after Sandy. Bring a small handsaw and look for any trees that are downed along the river. If their root ball was in/under water at any time, even better, the wood's edges will be softened already. I never even boil my pieces and have never had a problem with transferring any type of parasite.

Hmm.. as I would love to save money like this I unfortunately don't have time :/ I barely have time for my fish. I saved 3 hours a week(Friday) for water changes. I barely get to see them! I only want some driftwood due to the ripping out of my wisteria... They destroy it like its nothing ...
