Anyone have advice on buying driftwood on ebay? I have seen a few sellers, but want to know if there is one that is better than others, and what will I have to do to it after I receive it?

I would just make sure to soak it for an extended period of time when you receive it, changing the water every so often.

i wouldnt do it unles they had good reviews and id ask for pcis of actual product with a tape measure

You have to be careful with "Driftwood"... As there is no 'industry standard' on exactly what driftwood is and what isn't driftwood.

Therefore anyone can go to their local lake and pull out half rotten branches and sell it online as "driftwood"... yet other distributors go through great lengths to acquire only hardwoods that have been adequately 'cured' through long natural process then taken to a facility to be further 'cured' through human processes.

Buyer reviews on Ebay are fairly reliable, but never put faith in user reviews posted by a supplier on their individual website.

A number of years ago I did buy a bulk of driftwood through a distributor I initially foud on Ebay. I did a lot of research to confirm the buyer was sellign quality wood. Unfortunately I do not have their name noted anywhere (Sorry). I was pretty satisified with my purchase, so at least be confident that there are quality suppliers out there, you just have to find them.

Thanks...,

So.....?

Anyone know of a online retailer that sells killer driftwood? My 8' tank is gonna look silly without a cool driftwood center piece.

I've purchased from a seller called apethouse on ebay and I was very satisfied. They sell malaysian driftwood. The pieces were solid, clean, and sank immediately with very little tannin leaching. The first couple pieces I pre-soaked, but eventually I just started putting them directly in the tank with no prep at all. They have sales for a piece as pictured, or lots of a size category where they pick the pieces. The only downside is the shipping is pretty expensive, as this stuff is pretty heavy.

Foster & Smith also sell malaysian driftwood, but they send you random pieces from whatever size category you pick. Good if you want to combine a bunch of different pieces, not so good if you're looking for a big centerpiece with a particular look. However, their flat rate shipping can make it a bargain if you're not picky about the pieces you want.

I actually just bought 3 pieces of Malaysian driftwwod from apethouse, I got them last Wednesday. Wood pieces are awsome! They sink right away and they provide you with 3 different pics of the driftwwod piece. Customer service is awsome and shipping is fast. I actually just set my 125g up yesterday. Tank is now @ 85 and ready for fishless cycle :-)

Howdy,

Why pay money? I harvest my own driftwood in a local stream :) It's free and a great weekend activity

Thinking about that, however I live in the desert and it is quite a haul to find a stream.
