I recently received a piece of "furniture" if you will and the hobbyist in me is questioning rather or not this is actually driftwood and can be made aquarium safe. Ideas?

Looks like it could be, is it coated in anything? If it's not I would try soaking it or boiling it for a bit to see if it leaches any tannins. Looks similar to some that I have seen at the fish store.

If you really aren't sure what type of wood though I wouldn't risk it. Still would be good "furniture" though haha. Maybe make some type of art out of it?

Would you recommend boiling it for M hour or so? Will it sink once placed in ?

I would boil it for at least a half an hour to sanitize it. It may or may not sink once it's waterlogged depending on how dense it is. I put rocks on top of mine, you can also tie it down with something like fishing line too. Remember since it hasn't been in water most likely it's still full of tannins so I would soak it for a week or up to a month to get rid of them all before putting it in with fish. Unless you want them for your specific setup? IDK.

If u don't want to place it in your tank u can make a nice window piece by using liquid nails to attach a staghorn fern, some airplants and moss to it,just moisten it once a day or so.
