Driftwood Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
water logging can take a while sometimes it never sinks and needs to be weighted down.

it can take several months to a year to stop releasing tannins.

eh my first post was sort of rushed, it really depends on the type of wood for example i have a piece of mopani wood thats been leaching for the past year yet i have peices of cedar that never leached at all(yet these were found at a lake so they probably sat underwater for years upon years and there several times larger.

carbon or purigen in your filter can help remove tannins.

I have the same problem, got a nice log that sunk on its own, but tannins turned my water yellow. I was told to boil the log and just wait until the tannins stop leaching. On the plus side my tank is amazonian so the yellowish color makes it quite nice, if yours is amazonian the yellowish color will look amazing....gl with the tank

Thanks all for the post. I do not mind it too much, I do not have any fish in it yet anyway so I can make it whatever i want lol. Any suggestions for oddball predators that will fit comfortably in a 55? I cannot make up my mind!

yep exactly right my 125 looks great with a bit of yellow tint. I have some woods that really never leached and others that still are after a long time

Mine leached so bad it turned my water dark dark red, luckily had 125 gallon tank with very little stocked and just let it go until it got almost black. Did a good water change and almost got rid of it all, it's been about 5 months now and is almost back to normal.
