I live in Utah. My mom lives in Oregon and brought me a piece of driftwood home from the beach. I don't know what kind of wood it is, but it fits the tank perfectly it's been rounded and smoothed quite a bit from the water. Question is...will it ever sink? It's been in the tank about two weeks now clipped to a 10 pound weight, the tension on the line doesn't seem to have loosened up at all. I have read about boiling it, but don't have a pot big enough. All I did was clean it and soak it in a big bucket before I put it in.

You can attach it to a bigger weight....

Over time the DW will become waterlogged. Just takes time. I'm working on a DIY DW project right now as a matter of fact. Hopefully they sink pretty quickly.. Fingers crossed.

It might sink in, 2weeks to 2years.

you could also drill from the bottom upwards with forstner bits and hollow it out and then put some weight inside

my one pieces has been it the tank almost 6 months and is just starting to get to neutral buoyancy.

Oregon Wood is the best! :headbang2

It could take a really long time, fir logs can float for many years - they use them as floats for houseboats. Like Andy Cook said, you could drill it out and fill the holes with rocks/epoxy. You can also screw it to some big chunks of slate with SS screws.
