+1

Soak in hot water in large container or trash can

most of my manzanita are 30"+ so boiling was no option. soak in a large enough trash can until they sink. change the water often as it will stink. then just rinse and place in the tank.

Do you need to clean driftwood you bougth from a store? I like how it tints your water brown but is that bad?

I personally clean every piece of wood I put in my tanks. And tannins will not hurt your fresh water fish. If you look at some slower moving streams and rivers you will notice the water is a brown color. This come from decaying leaves and trees that have fallen in to the water. Some people think this makes the aquarium look more natural, and some just don't like it. I personally do not like the look in my tanks, but either way it is not going to harm your fish. And if you wish to remove tannins from your water. Just do regular water changes to move it.

Thanks for the info, I like how it looks

There is some evidence that tannins are beneficial towards breeding and maintaining certain blackwater fish, like neon tetras.
On the topic of driftwood, if you need to boil it, use a metal trashcan, and boil it over an open fire. If that's not an option due to locale, then bleach works fairly well too. Hot water with a little bleach in it changed every day, last few day's no bleach and a declorinator added instead. Works well for me, and I use dirty wood from the beach and rivers.
