Not that there's any visible rot, but when I pulled out some bamboo that I'd had stuck into the substrate (which is sand over gravel over aquarium soil), the part that had been in the soil smelled somewhere between gingivitis and a septic tank, whereas something I'd had stuck in the soil elsewhere for a few minutes smelled fine.
Anyone else had this happen? Think it's a serious problem? I'm wondering if sealing the parts that'll be stuck in the soil with silicone might be the solution.
