driftwood ?s

I found a large piece of driftwood from Lake Champlains shore in Vermont. My question is would it be safe to put in my tropical fishtank? or are there some steps I should take before putting it in or dont bother?

The basics are to:
Clean it
Boil it
Let it soak
Let it soak
Let it soak

I agree..soak, soak, soak..that's the key. Soak untill all the tanins have been removed and start to sink. Also, I read somewhere that you can add salt to kill any bacteria. good luck

It WILL grow some cotton like alge in about a week, either scrub it or plecos will eat it once its in the tank.
